Frequently Asked Questions

  1. REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION
    1. Why is there no daily, evening, or at-the-door registration?
      • For the committee it raises issues of bookkeeping, monitoring, dance floor space, and gender balance.
      • For the camp management, a constant flow of people in and out raises issues of security for their property and our children.
    2. I can only come Friday to Sunday. Can I pay the Sat-Mon fee?
      • As above, it is an issue of monitoring and camp policy.
      • The Sat-Mon option is a big concession by the camp that we appreciate very much. But it is the only concession.
    3. My friend, John, is already registered and confirmed. Now he has agreed to name me as partner for the gender balance. Can he change his registration?
      • When there is a waitlist for ladies, the number of women already confirmed is based on the number of men already confirmed, including John. Admitting you without a new registrant would change our gender balance in the wrong direction.
    4. I can't come to camp due to an emergency, but the cancellation deadline has passed. Can I get a refund anyway?
      • The answer depends on our situation when you ask the question, so it can't be answered in an FAQ.
      • The policy is to return all but $25 if we can fill your space from the waitlist or if we subsequently fill the camp.
      • Otherwise, it would be a committee decision at the fall meeting, considering our own financial posture.
    5. I am on your waitlist and trying to make alternative plans for the weekend. Do I need to worry about the cancellation deadline?
      • If we are able to invite you off the waitlist and you decline, we will refund 100% of your fee.
  2. ACCOMMODATIONS
    1. When will we know our cabin assignment and bed arrangement (2 singles, 1 full, or bunk beds)?
      • We are often still trying to finalize the cabins as late as the morning of the Friday that camp starts. And most cabins contain both singles and bunks, so it depends on what is already taken when you arrive. Clearly it is advisable to prepare for all the possibilities.
    2. Describe a typical cabin.
      • All cabins have electricity, showers, sinks, and toilets.
      • A typical cabin is a single bedroom that shares a bathroom with one other cabin. The other cabin will usually be of the same type (couples/ladies/gents/family). The largest bathrooms have 3 showers, 3 toilet stalls, and 3 sinks. The medium ones have 2 of everything. Except for large groups that ask to be together, the number of people actually sleeping in one cabin is typically 2-6, because of the many people who choose to tent.
    3. I need to be in an air-conditioned cabin.
      • Before camp starts, we are provided with a list of the cabins that have an A/C window unit. Most of them are "uphill" cabins, farthest from the dance halls. We don't know the condition of the units or how many requests we will receive, so we cannot guarantee A/C. But we can usually assign those who request it to one of those cabins.
    4. I/we need to be in a private room.
      • Tenting is a popular option to consider.
      • There is a very limited number of small rooms, so we cannot guarantee privacy at the time of normal registration. If we can accommodate your needs, we will contact you about a week before camp begins to see if you still want to register.
      • Most of the small rooms are in "the Lodge", where we house many of the families with young children. Six of those rooms share a bathroom with another room. And 12 of them have walls but no ceiling, so noise can be problematic.
  3. CLOTHING
    • Some people like to dress up for the Sunday night dance.
    • Possibility of cool or cold weather. Evening temperatures can fall into the forties.
  4. TRANSPORTATION
    1. Can you help me find a ride to camp from Baltimore?
      • We will send you the current list of all registrants who indicated they can give a ride. The list includes registration addresses, so you can decide whom to contact.
    2. Is there an address to get to camp using a GPS?
      • http://maps.google.com/ recognizes this: 1 White Mountain Rd, High View, WV. So your GPS might know it too.
      • Otherwise, you can find maps and directions on this website.
  5. SUPPORT CREWS
    1. Describe the opportunities for fee reduction.
      • There are 4 support crews:
        • dining hall (dishwasher operator)
        • dance hall (sweeping, water bearer)
        • midnight snack (procure, prepare, cleanup)
        • kids' crafts (kids' workshop, and assist with camper check-in)
      • All will work 6 hours during the weekend.  Except for the kids' crafts person, 2 of the 6 hours are during either Friday's setup or Monday's cleanup.
      • We try to minimize conflicts between work schedule and weekend activities.
      • The jobs are coordinated in advance with your preferences taken into consideration.
  6. SPECIAL DIETARY NEEDS
    1. I need to bring my own food. Will I have access to refrigeration and a microwave oven?
      • A refrigerator and microwave, located in the main dining hall, are available to all campers.
    2. What is on the camp menu?
      • A well-stocked salad bar is very popular and available at every meal.
      • For more specific information, if available, please contact mizkelleher@juno.com
  7. SAFETY, NOISE, PETS, SMOKING
    • Parents are responsible for their children's supervision.
    • Access to the pool and canoes must be supervised by a lifeguard.
    • Please leave your pets and loud electronic devices at home.
    • Smoking is not permitted in camp buildings.
  8. TEEN ATTENDING WITHOUT PARENT
    1. What is needed for a minor (under 18) to attend with a non-parental adult?
      • The adult must be at least 21 and be able to show us a letter from the parents granting the adult permission to make decisions in case of emergency.  It must also contain the minor's medical insurance and emergency contact information.
