Date: June 16th 2010

Dear Dancer,

We thought we'd remind you, now that summer is almost officially here, that it's time to be thinking about Fall - the fourth annual FootFall Dance Weekend, September 10-12, 2010, that is. Fabulous music, exhilarating callers, enthusiastic dancers, and entertaining workshops, at Timber Ridge Camp, in High View, West Virginia.

We have booked two wonderful callers - Adina Gordon and Bob Isaacs - so you know there will be quirky, put-your-track-shoes-on contras and some seriously wicked rollicking. This year FootFall features three high-energy bands: Night Watch, with Owen Morrison, Naomi Morse, and Elvie Miller, is in the forefront of the new generation of contra bands. They blend northern and southern musical roots to create music that flows with improvisation based on rock-solid rhythm. More at their webpage, http://www.nightwatchacoustic.com/ The Contraptions - Chloe Maher, Bill Quern, and Nora Smith - mix old-time, Irish, New England, and French Canadian music with spectacular results. Visit their website at http://www.thecontraptions.com/ and listen to their wonderful version of "Flying Home to Shelley." The Love Mongrels - Orrin Star, Danny Knicely, Alexander Mitchell, and Ralph Gordon - are a DC-based stringband featuring four pro pickers - dueling mandolins, fiddle and bass - making high-octane dance music. You can hear a music sample at our website, http://footfalldance.com . Gaye Fifer and Wayne Albright will present their always delightful and popular waltz tutorials. Ted Hodapp and Lynn Baumeister will teach workshops in French odd-count waltz and hambo, and Ted will host the Saturday night Joke Show. Melissa Running will lead three English Country Dance workshops, plus (new this year) a Saturday early-evening ECD session - from 7:30 to 9. A Kerry set taught by Owen Morrison. International dance with master sound tech Jamie Platt. A visit to the fossil pit, hosted by John Merck. The ever-popular and informative FootSore workshop by camp doctor Susan Schmitt. Singing workshops Saturday and Sunday morning. Late night post-dance swims. Cost per person is $205, or $150 for ages 14-25. If you are interested in working as a FootFellow - either helping in the dining hall or as a sweeper, please email us and let us know. FootFellows pay only $120. Check our website, http://FootFallDance.com for more details. On-line registration (by PayPal) is available now. We'd love to see you in September!
