FootNotes 2.
★ What to pack: Dance duds and dance shoes; non-dance clothing and shoes including one long-sleeve top (sometimes mornings are chilly); a flashlight (we have small pocket flashlights for $2 if you forget yours); rain gear (we have a supply of lightweight plastic ponchos for $1); sheets, pillow, and blankets or sleeping bag; a light jacket (we have beautiful fleece jackets for $25); shampoo, soap, other toiletries such as shaving equipment and deodorant; towels, a bath mat if you have one, and a bathrobe (all cabins have showers); swim suit (only the late night swims are "suits optional") and beach towels, pool shoes, sandals, or flip-flops; sunscreen and/or a hat; hangers; a small (quiet) alarm clock; a bedside light; extra socks; a lawn chair if there's room in the car; pocket money or your checkbook.

★ Special food if you have dietary restrictions (gluten intolerance for instance). Beverages if you want something other than coffee, tea, juice, milk, or water. Treats to share at the Friday night or Saturday night post-dance party would be especially welcome. (Please mark everything with your name or initials). Friday night treats can go into the camper refrigerator in the Dining Hall, and Saturday night treats can go into the coolers in the Canteen upon your arrival.

★ Please look at the website for directions. Our big beautiful bright yellow signs will be at every important intersection, but if you are going to be driving after dark, particularly if you have not been to Timber Ridge before, and/or if you are going to be driving alone, print the directions in GREAT BIG TYPE, so you can read them easily - even by dashboard light. Here are landmarks and elapsed mileage readings measured from the intersection of Routes 50 and 37 (all mileages are approximate): ▸ 10.8 miles on Route 50 to the Gore Volunteer Fire Station. This is a large white building on your right, very well lit at night. As you pass the fire station, move into the left hand lane. ▸ Continue just 0.5 miles on Route 50 and then turn LEFT onto Route 259. ▸ Travel 4.2 miles on Route 259 - you'll see the West Virginia state line sign. ▸ Continue 0.5 miles on Route 259. As you pass the Case Tractor sign, notice the large white buildings on your right and slow down so you can make a sharp RIGHT turn onto Christian Church Road. ▸ Follow Christian Church Road for 1.4 miles - you will pass between the red brick church (on the right) and a red brick church office building (on the left). ▸ Continue just 0.2 miles on Christian Church Road. Make a LEFT turn onto Hooks Mill Road. ▸ Travel 1.4 miles on Hooks Mill Road (mostly downhill), until you see a "Dead End" sign and the pavement ends. Turn LEFT onto a gravel road. ▸ 0.2 miles uphill on the gravel road. At the fork, bear RIGHT (you'll see a Timber Ridge sign), and continue 0.3 miles to the gate. ▸ Follow the yellow signs to the bottom of the hill, curve left along the camp's main road to the purple A-Frame. (If you arrive after 8:30, registration may have been moved to the Dining Hall, which is halfway down the hill - you'll see a small parking lot on your left. Pull in and walk around the uphill side of the Dining Hall to find the entrance.) ▸ If you need an immediate pitstop before checking in, the small dark blue building just past the A-Frame (on the same side of the road) has bathroom facilities, as does the small building just downhill from the dining hall.

★ Gas is almost a dollar less expensive than it was a year ago. The Sheetz station at the intersection of Routes 66 and 15 is competitive. If you're using the Greenway to15 to 7 route from the DC area (which we strongly recommend), there are several gas stations EAST of Winchester - before you get to the 81/37 loop around Winchester - that were at $2.379 and $2.399 on Sunday, when we drove out to the camp. The Gas Mart, located about 5 miles west of the Route 50/Route 37 intersection, was $2.439 Sunday, as was the Exxon on the left just after you turn onto 50, but the price for regular along 81 was mostly $2.459. If you come out on US-50, look for gas shortly before you get to I-81.

★ If you are taking the Greenway to 15 to 7 route, watch for the sign to the 81 North ramp - the ramp is just after the entrance to a fairly large shopping center, and not particularly well marked. Once on 81, you get off at the very first exit and take US-11 briefly to get to US-37. We'll try to have our big yellow signs there, to give you a little advance warning.
